The Federal Research Ministry is using the "Entrepreneurial Regions" (German: Unternehmen Region) programme family to promote regional innovation alliances in Eastern Germany. Based on this, the Ministry is currently developing a pan-German innovation funding concept “structural change”.

"Entrepreneurial Regions" (German: Unternehmen Region) is distributed across the whole of the New German Länder. This is clearly illustrated in the approach taken by “Unternehmen Region”: it is not important where the initiatives' headquarters are located, but how they use their potential and competences.

"Entrepreneurial Regions" (German: Unternehmen Region) involves six ongoing individual programmes that draw on different strategic points of the innovation process.
